Have you ever heard the expression “You Can Never Go Back!” I am sure you have so have I.
However I am the hopeless romantic and in my head and heart I always see the best in everything until…!
I was born in Alsace, France and a few years ago I asked my brother, who was also there, if he had recently gone back to Alsace where we were born. He lives in Germany and he said yes he did, but he said, it's not at all anymore as it was. He told me don't go back, you will be very disappointed. It was a rural area back in our childhood but now he said where we used to live, where there were seemingly endless grassy meadows, everything is paved over with concrete and huge malls.
So I decided not to go there. Instead I thought it would be a great idea to go and see my mother who lives alone in a small Doerfchen in Germany. It's also not far from the next larger city but still a small city where I grew up and went to school from about the age of 8 to 16.
My memories of this time aren't all that good, some are definitely horrible, but that is for another video. My apprehension to go back to the past was overcome by the need to be a dutiful daughter and visit my mother, maybe for what could be the last time.
